Merry Christmas

Hi there!

I'm a week late, I know. My great grandmother passed away on Christmas Eve, so I wasn't exactly in the mood to post. It's okay, though. She was at peace, and I'm lucky enough to have a large, supportive family. We've been together just about every night. We kind of cope by cooking together and playing games.

The salt water ate away at my manicure, but not badly enough to where you can't get the idea...

My nails painted with Kleancolor - Metallic Red.
Stamped with Julep - Sienna and Bundle Monster image plate  BM14.

I painted only 1 coat of Metallic Red. I then stamped with Sienna and topped it with a coat of Seche Vite. I initially tried this manicure with Metallic Sapphire (it's gorgeous), stamped with Nicole by OPI's Positive Energy (silver). The idea of that combination is amazing... but the formulas didn't work with one another. The Metallic Sapphire seemed to eat the silver. Even with an application of top coat before the stamped image was applied couldn't stop the silver from disappearing.

Have you ever tried a manicure where one of the polishes disappeared?

Until next time...

Awesome Deal Alert

Hi there!

I took part in this same type of deal back in October. It allowed me to purchase 3 Zoya polishes and 2 OPI polishes for only $14, free shipping! A similar deal is back. It's $17.50 for $50 worth of product on bloom.com

If you'd like to nab this deal, here's how...

Oh, it's only good for US residents :-/ and the deal expires in roughly 3 days from now.

This is my referral link. It will issue a $5 credit to your account if you're a new member.

2. Where it asks for a promotion code on the signup section, enter Fabulous
This code will give you an extra $2.50 to your account.

3. Once you've signed up, search for "Everywhere" deals. There will be a bloom.com deal that says it costs $25 for $50 worth of product. Click on it, and then click "Make it Mine."

Wrapping Paper

Hi there!

I spotted a package wrapped underneath a charity donation tree that inspired this manicure...

My nails painted with China Glaze - Ruby Pumps and Emerald Sparkle.
Stamped with China Glaze - Passion and Konad image plate M60.

I almost decided against sharing this design because the picture shows and magnifies every flaw. Yes, the image is patchy and uneven, and the top coat definitely smeared it. But it really doesn't look that bad in person!

Anyway, I painted 2 coats of Ruby Pumps (red) and Emerald Sparkle (green). I stamped using Passion, one of my favorite stamping polishes. Then I added a coat of China Glaze's Fast Forward Top Coat.

Do you use/have you used this top coat? This is my second time using it, and I'm not sure I like it. It dries with an annoying smell that doesn't dissipate for hours after application :-/

Until next time...

China Glaze - Emerald Sparkle Versus Glittering Garland

Hi there!

I forgot to post this comparison when I painted it quite some time ago...

My nails painted with China Glaze - Emerald Sparkle and Glittering Garland.
Emerald Sparkle is painted on my pointer and ring finger.
Glittering Garland is painted on my middle and pinky finger.

I painted 2 coats of each polish to make them perfectly opaque. At first glance, there isn't much of a difference between the two... with a closer look, Glittering Garland is more olive-colored than the forest green of Emerald Sparkle. Glittering Garland dries much more smoothly than Emerald Sparkle. And Glittering Garland is a smidge less densely glitter-packed than Emerald Sparkle.

If I had to recommend just one polish, it'd easily be Glittering Garland.

Do you have either of these? Which do you prefer?

Until next time...

China Glaze - Lorelei's Tiara

Hi there!

I recently received this polish as a gift, and I can already tell it's my new go-to for the winter...

My nails painted with China Glaze - Lorelei's Tiara.

I painted 2 coats of Lorelei's Tiara, and I topped it with a coat of China Glaze's Fast Forward Top Coat to achieve what's pictured. I first tried this manicure with a coat of Seche Vite- it lifted and all of the polish peeled clean off of my nails within a few hours.

Typically, I'm not one for glitter polishes. In fact, I think this might be the first one I like. It sparkles like crazy in person and my picture really does no justice. My camera wouldn't focus with all of the sparkle, so the cell phone picture is the best I could manage to capture.

What's your favorite polish from the Eye Candy collection? Do you own this one?

Until next time...

Kardashian Kolors

Hi there!

I noticed the Kardashian Kolors nail polishes last week, but I got side-tracked and forgot about them until today. The display was still fully stocked, so I picked up 4 colors... err, kolors...

Kardashian Kolors. Nicole by OPI - Disco Dolls, Wear Something
Spar-Kylie, Kendall On The Katwalk, and Follow Me On Glitter.

I painted 2 coats of each polish to achieve what's pictured.

  • Disco Dolls is a light gold base with green, pink, blue, and silver hexagonal glitter.
  • Wear Something Spar-Kylie is a pink base with pink glitter.
  • Kendall On The Katwalk is a blue base with blue, green, and purple glitter.
  • Follow Me On Glitter is a black base with silver, pink, and blue hexagonal glitter.

Do you have any of the colors from this collection? Which would you most recommend?

Until next time...

China Glaze - Ick-A-Bod-Y

Hi there!

I've got to admit that I bought this polish solely for its name and the hype surrounding it. I wasn't too fond of the color swatches I saw online- and I didn't think I'd like it in person, either. I was wrong...

My nails painted with China Glaze - Ick-A-Bod-Y.

... I'm kind of mesmerized by its finish :-) The formula is what you might expect from a glitter, but it doesn't feel annoyingly chunky/gritty on the nail. I painted 2 thick coats to achieve what's pictured.

Do you like this polish? Do you own it?

Until next time...

China Glaze - Crimson

Hi there!

Here's another polish from the Haunting collection...

My nails painted with China Glaze - Crimson.

I painted 2 coats to achieve what's pictured. It's got a similar watery formula to that of Near Dark- though it didn't leave patchy spots, and I didn't have a problem getting the polish to stay put near my cuticles. Overall, I think it's a nice color if you want something almost black... but, sadly, I must say it's not unique. It reminds me very much of the other dark purple polishes I own.

Until next time...

I Have A Right Hand

Hi there!

When photographing my manicures, I often forget about my right hand. It felt left out, so today, it's making its first appearance...

My nails painted with China Glaze - Hyper Haute.
Stamped with Konad image plate M73.

I painted 2 coats of Hyper Haute and stamped with Konad's special black polish to achieve this look. I topped it off with a coat of Seche Vite.

To anyone who photographs their manicures: I dare you to spotlight the hand you don't generally photograph in your next post :-)

Until next time...

Nicole by OPI - One Time Lime

Hi there!

My hunny poo chose this polish for me to wear today...

My nails painted with Nicole by OPI - One Time Lime.

I painted 2 coats to achieve what's pictured, and the application was exactly as you'd hope it would be. I can already tell this one is a stainer. I thought I'd play with a nail design, but I decided against it- so when I removed the polish on one of my nails... well, it didn't get the hint. I recommend a base coat with this one :-)

Until next time...

My Boo Tattoo

Hi there!

The polishes in OPI's 2009 and 2011 Halloween mini sets are eerily similar. Here are the oranges...

OPI - He's My Boo and Tattoo You Want Candy?

My nails painted with OPI - He's My Boo and Tattoo You Want Candy?
He's My Boo is painted on my pointer and ring finger.
Tattoo You Want Candy? is painted on my middle and pinky finger.

I painted 2 coats of each polish to achieve what's pictured. They're both a little bit streaky, but it's barely noticeable. In fact, the streakiness may just be a result of the miniature polish brushes- I don't often use them. The only real difference between these 2 polishes is He's My Boo (2011 Spookettes collection) has more of a milky color than Tattoo You Want Candy? (2009 Tattoo Ta-Boo! collection).

What's your favorite orange nail polish?

Until next time...

Revlon - Fierce

Hi there!

Today, I'm wearing Revlon's Fierce...

My nails painted with Revlon - Fierce.

I painted only 1 coat to achieve what's pictured. I think the formula is great- it's easy to work with and it dried quickly. The finish on this polish is like that of Princess, with the foily-metallic-suede look. And depending on the lighting, the color is either pink or purple- though not a duochrome.

I'm loving it :-)

Until next time...

It's Alive and Zombie Zest

Hi there!

I'm still wearing my water marble from last week, so here's a comparison I tested when I received a bunch of new Halloween polishes...

China Glaze - Zombie Zest and It's Alive.

My nails painted with China Glaze - It's Alive and Zombie Zest.
It's Alive is painted on my pointer and ring finger.
Zombie Zest is painted on my middle and pinky finger.

I painted 2 coats of each polish to achieve what's pictured. It's Alive has different sized/shaped glitter, while Zombie Zest contains glass flecks. If I had to recommend one over the other, it'd be Zombie Zest... it's easier to work with, and it's much easier to remove :-)

Until next time...

San Francisco 49ers Water Marble

Hi there!

Welp, football season is baaaaack! While I don't particularly care for the sport, I love the parties that come with it :-) My hunny poo likes that I support his love of the game with my nail art...

Red, gold, and black San Francisco 49ers water marble.
China Glaze - Red Pearl, China Glaze - Passion,
and Sinful Colors - Black on Black.

I painted 1 coat of Passion for the base. Then I marbled with Red Pearl, Passion, and Black on Black. I topped it all with a coat of Seche Vite.

Are you sporting a football inspired manicure?

Until next time...

Revlon - Princess

Hi there!

My cousin and her husband welcomed their new baby boy into this world late last night. This manicure is for that precious ball of cuteness...

My nails painted with Revlon - Princess.

I painted 2 coats of Princess to achieve what's pictured. It's 1 of 8 polishes from the Edgy Elegance collection. It applied easily, and it dried very quickly. The best way I know how to describe it is foily-metallic-suede. It has the silver undertones and texture that foil polishes have, while the color fits with metallic and suede polishes.

I'm a bit curious to know how it got its name... since I don't generally see princesses sporting blue. This may be an odd choice to pay homage to a new baby boy, but the color is suiting... so what the hey :-)

Do you have any polishes with names that are not fit for their color?

Until next time...

A Haunting Admirer

Hi there!

These two polishes are pretty similar...

China Glaze - Haunting and Sinful Colors - Secret Admirer.

My nails painted with China Glaze - Haunting and Sinful Colors - Secret Admirer.
China Glaze is painted on my pointer and ring finger.
Sinful Colors is painted on my middle and pinky finger.

I painted 2 coats of each polish to achieve what's pictured. Haunting has larger, less dense flecks of silver in comparison to Secret Admirer. I think they're similar enough where you don't need both, but I can't recommend one over the other... I like 'em equally :-)

Until next time...

China Glaze - Haunting

Hi there!

This is from its namesake's collection...

My nails painted with China Glaze - Haunting.

I painted 2 coats for it to be opaque. Haunting was easy to apply, and it dried very quickly. It ties Ghoulish Glow for my favorite from the Haunting collection. The silver flecks really remind me of a starry sky... and it sure would have come in handy for my splattered fireworks manicure!

Until next time...

Teal Leopard

Hi there!

I've been wearing this manicure for a few days now...

My nails painted with Diamond Cosmetics - Don't Teal My Heart Away.
Stamped with Konad image plate M57.

I used China Glaze's Adore to stamp over my ovarian cancer awareness manicure. Adore stamped very easily, as do the rest of the polishes from the Romantique collection :-) I topped it off with a coat of Seche Vite.

What do you think of this color combination?

Until next time...

Ovarian Cancer Awareness

Hi there!

September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, and teal is the color for it. Teal Toes works to raise awareness, and while I don't have a teal pedicure to share... I am sporting a pretty teal manicure...

My nails painted with Diamond Cosmetics - Don't Teal My Heart Away.

I painted only 1 coat for this polish to be opaque, and it dried very quickly. Pretty, right?

For more information, please visit tealtoes.org.

Will you be wearing teal this month?

Deal Alert

Hi there!

When I go shopping, there's nothing I love more than a good deal!

Walgreens has all of their $1.99 Wet n Wild products on sale this week for .99 cents. I chose these...

All from Wet n Wild, left to right: Saved by the Blue, Teal of Fortune,
Teal or No Teal, Gray's Anatomy, Buffy the Violet Slayer,
and SaGreena the Teenage Witch.

Target has a couple of good nail polish coupons. They have $1 off any Sally Hansen nail care or color and $1 off any Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure nail color. They also have several coupons for $1 off any item from Sonia Kashuk, Revlon, and Maybelline. The coupons don't specifically say nail polish- but the pictures show nail polish bottles. You can print the coupons twice per computer :-)

Until next time...

China Glaze - Ghoulish Glow

Hi there!

I can already tell that I love this polish...

China Glaze - Ghoulish Glow.

This is what it looks like over China Glaze's Near Dark...

My nails painted with China Glaze - Ghoulish Glow and Near Dark.

I painted 2 coats of Near Dark, and a semi-thick coat of Ghoulish Glow. I'm happy with the formula, and I'm especially thrilled with how it looks on my nails... it completely transformed my "meh" manicure! I think it looks good both in daylight and in the dark.

Sadly, I don't have pictures to show you of how it looks on my nails in the dark- my camera just wouldn't capture it. But, I assure you... my nails looked exactly like the picture of the glowing bottle :-)

Do you have this one? If not, is this a polish you'll be adding to your "must have" list?

Until next time...

China Glaze - Near Dark

Hi there!

This is the first polish I decided to test from the Haunting collection...

My nails painted with China Glaze - Near Dark.

Now, before you think I've lost my nail painting ability... I intentionally left my pointer finger with just 1 coat. The rest of my nails are painted with 2 coats. Near Dark is a pretty watery formula- 2 coats makes it opaque, but still a tad patchy. Near my cuticles is where I had the roughest time with this polish... it didn't seem to want to stay where I put it, and it dragged a bit.

Overall, I'm "meh" about this one. I think the dark shade of green is interesting, but I really dislike the formula. Perhaps I'll leave the cap off for an hour to let it thicken up.

Until next time...

Halloween Haul

Hi there!

I'm pretty excited about this, since I didn't before own any polishes from specific Halloween collections...

All from China Glaze, left to right: Mummy May I, Ick-A-Bod-Y,
Zombie Zest, It's Alive, Near Dark, Ghoulish Glow, Haunting, and Crimson.

The first 3 polishes are from last year's Awakening collection, and the rest are from this year's Haunting collection.

All from OPI, left to right: He's My Boo, Mummy Knows Best, I
Only Date Werewolves, Zom-Body to Love x2, Witch Arm?,
Glow-ink in the Dark, Tattoo You Want Candy?, and I Love Mummy.

The Spookettes set is this year's collection, and the Tattoo Ta-Boo! set is from 2009.

I'm most excited to wear the glow in the dark polishes! ... But I'll give them all a fair chance, and I'll be posting pictures this week :-)

Do you own any Halloween-y polishes? What's your favorite?

Until next time...

Neeka and Alfre

Hi there!

As I was putting my newer polishes away, I couldn't resist the temptation to compare these...

My nails painted with Zoya - Neeka and Julep - Alfre.
Zoya is painted on my pointer and ring finger.
Julep is painted on my middle and pinky finger.

Alfre is pretty cool. I only needed to paint 1 coat for it to be fully opaque. This was my first time trying a Julep polish, and I'm pleased with the formula and the brush. The application was absolutely effortless. I like the finish of this one- it's high gloss, and almost metallic. I'm thinking that I'll have to try my luck stamping with it one of these days. Up close, it's easy to spot the differences between Neeka and Alfre... but just an arm's length away, they look like twins.

Until next time...

Zoya - Neeka

Hi there!

I forgot to post this earlier...

My nails painted with Zoya - Neeka.

I've been wearing Neeka for a couple of days now... it's great. The application was simple and I only needed to paint 1 thick coat for it to be opaque. I think the mixture of this particular shade of purple and gold flecks is rather unique. It's grabbed a lot of attention from the people I've encountered.

Do you own any of the shades from the Smoke and Mirrors collection? I'm trying to decide if I need more :-)

Until next time...

A Julep Haul

Hi there!

It seems the word has been getting around about Julep and their monthly Julep Maven subscription service. I wanted to see for myself what all the hype was about, so I signed up for a month. This is the polish portion of what I received today...

All from Julep, left to right: Emilie, Sienna, Cameron, Alfre, and
Nail Therapy x2 (one is mislabled).

I'll definitely wear the colors that were chosen for me. I really like the idea of getting new polish in the mail each month (who wouldn't!?), but I can't bring myself to feel comfortable with the price/size of the bottles- maybe they'll grown on me? Julep polishes are all 8mL, while most polishes I own are 15mL.

I also received 2 bottles of their "Facial for Hands" Glycolic Hand Scrub. I haven't gotten the chance to try it yet, but I've heard great things about it from people who have.

They were running a promotion where the $19.99 introductory box set of 2 polishes, 1 Nail Therapy, and 1 hand scrub was $4.99 ... worth it! I believe the promotion I signed up with has now ended and begun as a new one at $9.99. Typically- each polish is $14, Nail Therapy is $16, and the hand scrub is $32.

On the super plus side, processing and shipping were amazingly fast... I ordered early yesterday morning! But it helps that I don't live far from their headquarters :-)

Have you jumped on this bandwagon? What are your thoughts?

Until next time...

Famous Sunglasses

Hi there!

Between manicures, I decided to compare the shades of these 2 polishes...

Color Club - Almost Famous and OPI - Need Sunglasses?

They look kind of similar in the bottles, but quite different on the nail...

Color Club - Almost Famous and OPI - Need Sunglasses?
Color Club is painted on my pointer and ring finger.
OPI is painted on my middle and pinky finger.

I painted 2 coats of Almost Famous and 3 coats of Need Sunglasses? Almost Famous is opaque, while Need Sunglasses? still shows some of my nail line. I like the opacity of Almost Famous, but it'll apply streakily if you aren't careful. I really like the effortless application of Need Sunglasses?, but I'm not fond of how many coats I need to get rid of the visible nail line. Ultimately, I don't think they're similar enough to recommend one over the other.

What are some yellow polishes you'd recommend?

Until next time...

China Glaze - 2Nite

Hi there!

I'm wearing blue again... but this one is special. It's for my cousin...

My nails painted with China Glaze - 2Nite.

... She's due next month with a precious baby boy. I'm so excited for her, and I can't wait to meet him!

I painted 2 coats to achieve what's pictured. I didn't even think to use a base coat, but I definitely wish I would have... I already have chips :-/ I should have used this base coat. Everytime I've used it, I've enjoyed great results!

Aside from this being a very short-lived manicure, I'm still happy with it. This color is gorgeous!

Until next time...

Orly - Lunar Eclipse

Hi there!

A friend of mine sent me this polish, and I love it...

My nails painted with Orly - Lunar Eclipse.

I painted 2 coats to achieve what's pictured. The first coat was a bit sheer, but a quick second coat makes this polish opaque. I can't seem to think of much else to say about this polish other than... I love it :-)

Until next time...

Zoya - Burke

Hi there!

I don't typically choose to wear jewel toned colors outside of the fall and winter months, but I recently got this one and I like the color... so why not?

My nails painted with Zoya - Burke.

I painted 2 coats and this polish was perfectly opaque. The application was effortless, and it dried very quickly. I'll admit, I'm a Zoya newbie... but I'm already a fan.

So here's a question... if a little polish troll told you that you had to choose just 1 favorite Zoya polish or he'd smash all of your polishes, which would you choose? This is my way of getting recommendations for which colors to buy next :-)

Until next time...

Sally Hansen - Sun Kissed

Hi there!

Today, I tried channeling the warm weather gods with this one...

My nails painted with Sally Hansen - Sun Kissed.

I painted 3 coats to achieve what's pictured. It's opaque- but I must have been in a hurry, because it dragged a little bit near my cuticles. That aside, I think Sun Kissed is a fun color... it's one I plan on using again for some Halloween nail art :-)

Until next time...

Sinful Colors - Rise and Shine

Hi there!

I'm kind of bummed. I painted a lovely manicure, and as I was cleaning up around my cuticles- I completely smudged it! It wasn't just a small smudge that could easily be fixed by applying another coat of polish or by pressing down on the polish to even it back out... somehow, I managed to move the polish from my fingernail up onto my skin. Woopsies! So I'll show you what I have left...

My nails painted with Sinful Colors - Rise and Shine.

I painted 1 regular coat and 1 thick coat to achieve what's pictured. I added a thick coat because the brush in my particular bottle has some very coarse bristles and it left light marks on my nails with just a regular coat. It's a great color with pretty green glass flecks throughout.

I think that my smudging my nails was some type of a sign from the procrastination gods. I haven't been putting much effort into landscaping our backyard... so I suppose I'll get to work and I won't worry about fixing my nails until tomorrow morning.

Until next time...

Color Club - Pucci-licious

Hi there!

This polish is one of many great polishes from Color Club's Poptastic collection...

My nails painted with Color Club - Pucci-licious.

I painted 2 coats to achieve full opacity. The application was effortless, though the formula seemed to be quite a bit thicker than my other Color Club polishes from the same collection. I wore this today while laying a pathway in my backyard... and as I'm inspecting my fingernails right now, I don't see even the tiniest of dents. Pucci-licious wears well, and I'm pleased :-)

Until next time...

Sally Hansen - Pacific Blue

Hi there!

I am really enamored by this color...

My nails painted with Sally Hansen - Pacific Blue.

I painted 2 coats to achieve what's pictured. This polish is very interesting... in fact, I'm not sure I own another quite like it. The lighting seems to affect the color of Pacific Blue much more than any other. I captured the above picture in my backyard under a cloudy sky. My fingernails look bright blue. While eating dinner in my dining room, my fingernails looked periwinkle... and as I'm typing right now, they look royal blue on the verge of navy blue.

Do you own this one?

Until next time...

Orly - Samba

Hi there!

I wanted to play around with some of my polishes this afternoon, so I only painted one hand...

My nails painted with Orly - Samba.

I painted 2 coats to achieve what's pictured. There is some visible nail line, so I don't think I'll be painting a full manicure of this today... I'll save it for when I cut my fingernails super short again.

How do you feel about polishes that show your nail lines?

Until next time...

OPI - DS Original

Hi there!

This color is beautiful...

My nails painted with OPI - DS Original.

I painted 3 coats of Original for it to be completely opaque. While playing around with it, I painted a single coat over another polish and it looked just as great as it does by itself. I don't know that there's much else I can say about this polish that you can't already see from the picture. It's just gorgeous!

Do you own this one?

Until next time...

Vacation Pictures

Hi there!

My brother in-law, sister in-law, husband, and I decided we needed to take a family vacation. It was so much fun, and just what we all needed! We rented a place for a few days on Lake Coeur d'Alene, in Idaho. We were a bit of a drive from town, but I didn't mind being secluded when I got to see this every night...

We enjoyed great weather the entire time. I think the only time it was cloudy was when we went out on the boat and I took this picture...

So. Much. House. ...

This is part of our view driving from town to our rental...

We sure kept ourselves busy! We went golfing, swimming, exploring, boating, and bowling. My sister in-law and I spent one day shopping before we went to the spa and got massages... that was lovely! We weren't busy, busy, busy the entire time, though. We stayed in and had game/movie night a couple of nights.

On the way home, my hunny poo and I stopped at the Columbia River to stretch our legs...

And then this is all we saw for miles and miles and miles and miles...

I hope you enjoyed looking through my pictures as much as I enjoyed taking them!

Until next time...

Vacation Haul

Hi there!

I kind of hit the nail polish jackpot while I was away! I think I might need to leave more often :-)

All from OPI, left to right: DS Original, I Juggle... Men, and

Now, I've got to decide which one I want to play with first! Decisions, decisions! Do you have any suggestions? I'll post some vacation pictures shortly!
